James Hardie fiber cement siding does not rot, does not feed termites or carpenter ants, does not melt near a grill, and holds paint far longer than wood in our wet climate. It is the siding we recommend and the siding we install most, and Wallace Roofing & Exterior Construction is a James Hardie Alliance Elite Contractor. Most homeowners do not know that siding certifications differ. Alliance Elite is Hardie's designation for contractors who install to Hardie's specification and stand behind it, and it is the reason our installations carry the coverage they do.
Fiber cement is also heavy and unforgiving. It has to be cut, gapped, flashed and fastened exactly right, which is where the installer matters more than the product.

Here is something we say on almost every siding estimate: James Hardie installed to code is bound to fail. We mean Washington State builder code, which sets a minimum, as opposed to James Hardie's own installation specification, which is stricter and is what the product actually needs. Code will pass an inspection. Hardie's spec is what keeps water out for thirty years.
The difference shows up in the details: the weather-resistive barrier and how it is lapped, the flashing above every window and door, the gap between the siding and the roof line, the clearance from the ground, the kick-out flashing where a roof meets a wall, the spacing and type of fasteners, and the caulking that is used and the caulking that is deliberately left out so the wall can drain. We install to Hardie's spec because we have seen what happens when it is skipped.

Rot. Almost every siding job in Snohomish and King County uncovers some of it, usually below windows, at the bottom of walls, behind decks and around hose bibs and dryer vents. Sometimes the sheathing is soft. Sometimes the framing is. We open the wall, show you the photos, and fix it properly before a single piece of new siding goes on. Covering rot with new siding is how you buy the same problem twice.
We also handle the interior side of the work. Removing old siding can crack drywall inside, and when it happens on our job we fix it. One of our homeowners wrote about exactly that after a full siding replacement, and it is how we intend to work on yours.

Installed to Hardie's specification, fiber cement siding lasts decades and holds its paint far longer than wood. Installed only to code minimum, it can fail early at the flashing and gaps, which is why the installer matters as much as the product.
It is James Hardie's designation for contractors who have been trained on and install to Hardie's own specification. Siding certifications are not all the same, and this one affects the coverage your installation carries.
Usually some. Below windows, at the base of walls and around penetrations are the common spots. We show you photos, price the repair and fix it properly before new siding goes on.
Yes. We have color-matched twenty-year-old vinyl on repairs so the patch is invisible, and we can match Hardie colors and profiles for partial replacements.
