If your windows are fogged between the panes, rotting at the sill, leaking, hard to open or letting cold air through around the frame, new windows will make your home more comfortable, quieter and drier. If your windows are sound and you are hoping new glass will pay for itself in heating bills, we are going to tell you the truth: it usually will not. Companies have gone out of business promising specific energy savings from windows, and we will never make that promise.

A window is only as good as the hole it sits in. The most common window failures we see in Snohomish and King County are not the glass. They are rotten sills from a window that was set without sill pan flashing, water stains below a window whose head flashing was skipped, and drafts from a rough opening that was foamed shut instead of properly sealed and insulated. All of those are installation problems, and all of them happen with expensive windows as often as cheap ones.
We remove the old unit, inspect and repair the framing, set a sill pan, flash the opening to shed water outward, set the window plumb and square, seal it, and integrate the flashing with the siding. When we replace siding and windows together, the two are flashed as one system.

They may help, but we will not promise a number. Companies have gone out of business over energy-savings promises and we do not make them. New windows are worth it when yours are fogged, rotting, leaking or failing. Comfort and dryness are the honest reasons to replace them.
A retrofit insert fits inside the existing frame and is less invasive. A full-frame replacement removes everything to the rough opening and is the right call when the sill or framing is rotten. We check the framing and recommend the one your window actually needs.
